UNIT9 collaborated with the MAC Cosmetics Creative Team to develop the MAC AVAF App. The native iOS app allows MAC Brand Ambassadors to enhance the experience of MAC events by turning pictures of guests into pieces of art with the use of augmented reality.

The app uses facial recognition technology to superimpose fun graphics onto the person’s face. The concept was inspired by the style of AVAF, the artist collective Assume Vivid Astro Focus.

It also produces a set of beautiful personalised GIF animations, which are individually emailed to each guest.

The campaign launched at the exclusive opening of MAC’s Carnaby Street Store in London. AVAF collective designed elements of the new store’s space, as well as masks and costumes worn by models and brand ambassadors during the event.

The app ensured that shoppers’ experience was a fun and memorable one.
